THE MINISTRY: OurCalling is a ministry specifically focused on the unsheltered homeless community. We operate an outreach center for the homeless community near downtown Dallas. We are passionate about loving and helping the unsheltered homeless transition to better lives. We are a faith-based ministry where every job is a ministry position. Each staff member should be able to clearly share the Gospel and communicate their own testimony. While everyone on the team wears multiple hats, our primary function is getting people off the street and helping them walk with Jesus. We want everything that we do to point to Jesus. We serve 200-400 guests daily. We are a “no-barrier” facility that is welcoming and compassionate to all who enter.

JOB SUMMARY: We primarily serve the chronically, unsheltered homeless population. Our homeless friends (Guests) are survivors who have experienced vast amounts of trauma. We use resources, services, and relationships to create opportunities for Gospel-centered conversations. We are careful in our interactions to demonstrate to our Guests and volunteers how to live out the truths of the Gospel and let the love of Christ control our actions.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The Kitchen Assistant II contributes to daily kitchen operations primarily by leading meal service for the Women’s Center, ensuring the proper setup and cleanup of upstairs catering kitchen, maintaining orderly organization of all food storage areas, assuring safety and sanitation requirements are met, helping to ensure all food deliveries are properly received and stored, while making certain all entrances and exits are secure. This person will also oversee volunteers serving in the catering kitchen. In collaboration with the Food Services Manager, the Kitchen Assistant II helps manage and effectively execute meal service during Inclement Weather Service events. Additional responsibilities include keeping the Women's Center stocked with supplies and clean and tidy. The Kitchen Assistant II may be asked to assist with other tasks as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent education required
  • Previous experience working in a faith-based organization preferred
  • Food Manager Certification preferred (or acquire within 90 days of start)
  • Valid driver’s license 
  • Able to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Able to stand for long periods of time
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented
  • A humble and approachable attitude, professional maturity, and integrity as a trusted team member
  • Taking personal initiative, being flexible in a busy and fast-paced environment
  • A problem solver and effective working across departmental lines 
  • Treat donors, ministry partners, and vendors with care and respect at all times
  • Generally works Monday through Friday.
